SpectraSensors Technology Improves Industrial Process Cost Efficiency

Tunable diode laser spectrometers are ideally suited for industrial process control applications where extreme conditions are present, instrument space is at a premium, and low-maintenance operations and outstanding sensitivity are required.

Off-the-shelf instrumentation is often not suitable for operation in harsh environments where extreme temperatures, sample extremes (including sample concentration, pressure, temperature, or flow rate), or corrosive chemicals must be tolerated on a continuous basis. In addition, Tunable Diode Laser (TDL) systems work well in applications where significant constraints on physical mounting schemes for the monitoring system exist. An extractive monitor configuration is generally suitable for most industrial process samples, and can target process control gases in a single-gas, or multiple-gas unit.

SpectraSensors’ products operate in a host of inert and corrosive background gases including methane, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen bromide, hydrogen fluoride, chlorine, glycols, mercaptans, and more. At present, target gases include water vapor and carbon dioxide. Sensor systems targeting oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon monoxide will be available in the near future.

Harsh Atmospheres and Detection Sensitivity are the Sweet Spot for Environmental Applications

Our laser-based gas sensor technology measures environmentally important gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, ammonia and methane, although development of product to measure all of these gases is dependent on the availability of lasers at the appropriate wavelengths. Monitoring these target gases is important for applications such as Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEM), monitoring of toxic levels of animal waste gases, perimeter monitoring of pollutant sources such as manufacturing and power plants, and other applications where EPA compliance is an issue. Open path configurations are ideally suited for applications where a large area of ambient air is to be sampled, or a cross-stack sample is required. Low sensitivity levels (ppbv) can be reached with this technique due to the longer path length allocated. SpectraSensors' diode laser-based technology is an ideal solution for many environmental monitoring tasks where sensitivity is a priority and continuous exposure to corrosive or otherwise harsh environments is the norm.
