Job Description:  The Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineer will be part of our Research & Development team and will work with collaborative teams to create and manage various technologies. The Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineer will enhance their skill set among a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues. This position is characterized by deep expertise and experience in DSP systems design and development; its disciplined quantitative approach to analysis activities; to system and technology integration; and diversified interdisciplinary experience and knowledge. In addition to the DSP engineering discipline, this position will work closely with Research engineers, Mechanical & Optical engineering, and software and hardware engineering disciplines to enable robust and reliable system performance. In addition to technical expertise, the engineer brings strong leadership, planning and team building skills.

 

The successful DSP engineer will also lead the selection and development of test methodologies and procedures for verification and validation (V&V) of product requirements. This position will be responsible for establishing and sustaining industry best practices, standards, processes, and documentation for V&V activities. The individual is a member of a cross-functional team that develops requirements and test plans, generates systems and component concepts, performs experiments, analyzes data, identifies opportunities and implements optical, mechanical, electrical hardware and software solutions. 

Essential Responsibilities:

 The DSP Engineer is responsible to design, develop, analyze, and test DSP algorithms that are implemented in hardware and software for Gas Analytic Spectroscopic systems using Tunable Diode Lasers, with the following specific duties:

  • Accountable to deliver DSP implementation for AD/DA conversion, spectra generation, sampling, filtering and processing in both time and frequency domains, Laser Temperature Control and successful V&V.
  • Accountable to ensure that test results align and comply with the design specifications and technical requirements.
  • Work with upstream and downstream stakeholders to integrate and validate device designs
  • Create, document, and test designs as an individual contributor as needed.
  • Analyze requirements, define and develop / design V&V plans, procedures and equipment used to perform design verification and design validation testing of gas analysis products and systems.
  • Execute test cases ensuring test failures and design errors are captured in defect tracking systems. (EPRs)
  • Troubleshoot and identify root cause of failure modes.
  • Form relationships with other Engineering disciplines and business units for collaboration and synergies. 

Qualifications:

The Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineer position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a specialized area plus a minimum of 3 years’ of related DSP work experience; 5 years + is preferred.. 

Candidates must have the following skill sets: 

  • Control Loop Design
  • AD/DA conversion
  • Sampling,
  • Digital Filter Design
  • Noise reduction
  • Signal modulation/demodulation (e.g. digital lock-in, Phase detection)
  • Time & frequency domain data analysis
  •  Python, C+/+, MATLAB for DSP using the related tool boxesEmbedded computation
  • Experience with ARM architecture micro controllers
  • Experience simulating, testing and troubleshooting DSP algorithms and systems
  • Systems requirements analysis
  • Signal processing architecture
  • Algorithm development
  • Software/hardware partitioning and trades
  • Hardware/software implementation collaboration
  • Hands-on system performance verification and validation in the lab
  • Experience in the full product lifecycle development
  • Ability to work effectively within a global cross functional team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, both in technical reporting and management briefings
  • Experience with data acquisition, analysis, and statistical methods.
  • Must be able to make engineering recommendations for product improvements based on data driven results
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills 

Candidates with following experiences will be preferred:

  • Spectra analysis algorithms, especially chemometrics
  • System identification and parameter estimation, and Pattern recognition
  • Digital and analog HW design and development
  • Data compression and decompression
  • Fixed point model conversion for hardware implementation
  • VHDL and/or Verilog and general FPGA design

  • Must have DSP experience
  • Must have working understanding of Formal Documentation and Specification creation
  • Must have working understanding of validation for Performance, Durability

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires sitting for long periods of time and the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
